Woody, a seventeen year old boy from a tiny village in Alaska, is so depressed he wants to end his life. Instead he does something epically stupid: he shoots the oil pipeline that crosses the state and overnight becomes a most wanted criminal, hunted by special agent James Tarheel. While he has to run for his life, he’s learning for the first time what it truly means to be alive.
The gripping story of In Alaska has the necessary elements and cross-over potential to reach an international audience; urgent, headstrong, cinematographic and stylish with a twist. The film will be shot entirely on location in Alaska and Canadian territories.
It is Jaap van Heusden’s fourth feature length film after Win/Win (Prix Europe for Best Screenplay, 45 film festival selections), The New World (International Emmy Award Best Actress, 50 festival selections on all continents) and In Blue (2017, Narrative Feature Award Austin Film Fest, festival selections a.o.; Roma Filmfest, Goa).

While the uncertainty rises over the continuity of the illegal Madrilenian district La Cañada Real, the film follows the daily life of members of a Spanish gypsy family, each member struggling in their own way with their life in transition and their sense of belonging.
Beyond the blue bridge (working title) is a film, set in an existing gypsy community that is under threat of being relocated. The family Gabarre Mendoza are ‘real’ members of this existing community. The approach of working with non-actors and a documentary aesthetic, combined with small fictionalized storylines, places the film within the neo-realistic tradition.
