While the uncertainty rises over the continuity of the illegal Madrilenian district La Cañada Real, this story follows the daily life of a Spanish gypsy family, each member struggling with their lives in transition and their sense of belonging in their own way.
Beyond the blue bridge (Spanish working title El azul bajo sus pies) is set in an existing gypsy community, that is under threat of being relocated. The family Gabarre-Mendoza are actual inhabitants in this suburb of Madrid. Working with non-actors and a documentary aesthetic, combined with fictionalized storylines, places this fiction film within the neo-realistic tradition.
Young emerging filmmaker Isabel Lamberti debuted with Amor, selected for the film festivals of Alcine Madrid, Uppsala, Prague Short, Küstendorf, BUFF, Short Waves, Dresden and Zubroffka (Best Live Action Award 2018). Recently Isabel directed the TV-series Skam and IJswater is currently in post-producing on her short documentary Father, coprod with public broadcaster KRO-NCRV and backed by a.o. NL Film Fund.
