In Alaska
Director & Screenwriter: Jaap van Heusden. Co-producers: VolterraGroup (NL), Caviar (BE). Status: in financing (script available). Sort: feature-length film, English spoken. Genre: drama, action, coming-of-age. Selected for Cannes Cinefondation l’Atelier Programme 2019, supported by the Netherlands Film Fund.

Woody, a seventeen year old boy from a tiny village in Alaska, is so depressed he wants to end his life. Instead he does something epically stupid: he shoots the oil pipeline that crosses the state and overnight becomes a most wanted criminal, hunted by experienced special agent Susan Tarheel. While Woody has to run for his life, he’s learning for the first time what it truly means to be alive.

The gripping story has all the necessary elements and cross-over potential to reach an international audience; urgent, headstrong, cinematographic and stylish with a twist. The film must be shot entirely on location in Alaska and Northern-Canadian territories.

This will be Jaap van Heusden (1979) his 4th feature length film. Graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2005 with A complicated story, simply told (Shortlist Student Academy Awards, Cannes Cinefondation), he has made several award winning films since then, a.o.: Anderman (short documentary, Tribeca IFF), Win/Win (1st feature, 30 Film Festivals, IFFR Bright Future 2010, Best Actor Brooklyn FF), The New World (45 Festivals, Emmy Award Best Actress 2014, Best Film/Actress/Actor Tehran IFF), Behind the blue screen (SXSW Digital Domain 2015) and In Blue (Winner Dutch Academy Awards 2018 Best Director/Screenplay/Actress, Rome FF, Beijing FF).
